Ten anglers from across the RN Commands travelled to RM Condor during the week affectionately referred to as, the week of the silly season. Unfortunately the severe weather that gripped the whole country delayed Jim Lamb in his arrival till Tue and unfortunately Mark Williams lost his timing belt at approx Newcastle, which curtailed his plans for the week. The midday spring tides all week and coloured water meant the practise day suited fishing all day go without any casting instruction.

The first match day saw the biggest spring tide and allowed us to chase the tide out at Usan. Without our usual guides we fished in pairs based on experience at marks that looked like they would produce fish. Most people landed fish but there was a lot of under sized fish about so we scored all Cod 36 to 45cm as a pound in weight to allow us to return smaller fish. Fishing was hard and the winning bag on day 1 was only approx 14 pound. The defending champion Sgt Scotty McAleese was narrowly in the lead but the match was still open for the taking.

Day 2 brought us some really tasty weather so the decision where to fish was based on safety. See photo. The limits were set from the end of Elliot Beach to the end of Victoria Park. The cliffs looked perfect for the swell conditions but the falling snow would have made them too treacherous. There was a split between The Back of Bali's and the Harbour. A dodgy kebab after day 1 just about did it for Nathan Lanks who was in a close second behind Scotty after day 1, he was forced to retire to Condor with severe D&V. Jim Lamb also had to go early so only managed the practice day from his usual mark on the harbour wall. A shame he didn't stay as the best bag was taken on day 2 from the harbour. With the country buckling under the conditions we fished the day out and made for the safety of Condor. The dodgy kebab that took Nathan Lanks out on day 2 worked itself out for the prize presentation and he managed to turn in a respectable overall score based on his first day's bag.
