RN Scotland Fly Fishing Championship

Unfortunately Scottish Fly-Fishing has not come alive this year and it has been proposed to Neptune Sports Drome and the RN & RM AA for PO "MAL" Malcolm, to under take this position.

It has been proposed for a Fly-Fishing Championship Open Day to take place at Lake of Menteith Fisheries on 14th July 2009.

Fly-Fishing before the 14/07/09 will take place on the 11th June 2009 at Lake of Menteith Fisheries all names to PO Malcolm A.S.A.P contact details enclosed.

This event will be open to all personnel working within HMNB Clyde, HMS Caledonia, members of the RN & RM AA, serving / ex-service personnel and all anglers that have taken part in any Fly Fishing Annual Scottish Command Championships.

All Novices are welcome, but they must make themselves available to PO Malcolm A.S.A.P for tuition, so they can enjoy the day even more. HMS Caledonia and Neptune are able to supply full Fly-Fishing outfits for up to 20 persons. PO Malcolm will also supply hand tied flies, especially the notorious Semtex Fly.

Lake of Menteith is set in the Trossachs, amidst magnificent scenery where Highland meets Lowland, the 700-acre Lake of Menteith is a well regarded rainbow and brown trout fishery in Scotland and is reputed to be the best location for fly fishing for rainbow trout and brown trout in Central Scotland.

Its central location (Glasgow 45 mins, Edinburgh 60 mins, Perth 50 mins) makes it ideal for meeting with friends for a day's or evening's fishing.

The Lake is stocked weekly with 1200 quality trout, and yields an average landed fish weight of over 2lbs. In 2004 the average catch per boat was 3.9 fish for 8lbs 11oz.

The 30-strong fleet of Lomond (Sweeney) Boats has recently been upgraded, and all are equipped with new Yamaha outboards. The fishery cabin with wood burning stove and tea/coffee are available to the anglers.

The Lake has been designated a Site of Special Scientific Interest due to its exceptional fauna and flora. Historically the lake has much to offer, with the impressive and tranquil ruins of the 13th century Inchmahome Priory situated on the largest of the Lake's three islands.

These attributes make the Lake an outstanding venue for some of the most prestigious fishing competitions and a great day out for all anglers.
