RN Scotland Championship Match Report

This was only the second time this event had been held. We had a change of venue this year to the Snake lake, Orchill Fishery, Braco, Perthshire.

Ten personnel attended which included seven serving and three ex navy personnel. Although relatively dry on the day the whole country has been battered by rain for whats seems like at least a month and this has had an effect on the fishing.

Fishing the pole at 14.5m in very strong winds WO1 Hughie Welsh (FOST-SM) won the match with 17lb 6oz, this included a 5lb golden orfe that came in like a 2oz skimmer (bargain). Mr Steve Johns (ex CPOWEA) BAE Systems was runner up with 16lb 3oz. Having really got into the zone with the carp Steve struck into a bite and subsequently half his pole ended up in the lake completly disrupting his swim from which he never recovered. CPO Dinger Bell (HMS Astute) was 3rd with 14lb.

Special thanks to Mr Nigel Foulds ex CPOSTD (JB Angling, Kirkintilloch) and Lt Doug Wiley (PTRO, HMS Neptune). Lt Wiley kindly arranged money for trophies and donated £100 towards prizes, Nigel boosted this to £150.

Everybody seem to enjoy the day and it is hoped rather than one match a year we will start having knock ups every 6-8 weeks.
