Round 2 ~ Tuesday 3 March at Staffs/Worcester Canal: Report

Round One: Results & ReportRound Two: Results & ReportRound Three: Results & ReportRound Four: Results & Report

If Mondays' weather had been unpleasant, Tuesday was appalling. Wind again affected sections A, B, C and one angler in section D, the remainder were lucky enough to be sheltered from the wind, the hail and cold rain affected everyone though. Despite the optimistic outlook from the locals that everyone should be able to catch at least 2lb from each peg, the reality was completely different from those expectations. Most struggled, particularly in the wind affected sections. Although C/Sgt Kev Hurst (RM), PO Martin Duane (NAC) and CPO Mick Ezard (Plymouth) managed to weigh in between 3lb 10oz, 2lb 13oz and 2lb 5oz respectively.

The Advanced winner and winner overall on the day was WO1 Joe Gillespie (RM) who weighed in an outstanding net of 4lb 5oz 8 drams. He obviously hasn't lost his touch, having flirted with the Carp side for a while, before his return to the enlightened coarse side of life. Second in the advanced category was C/Sgt Kev Hurst and PO Martin Duane was third. In the Intermediate category, CPO Hughie Welsh (Scotland) was first with a weight of 2lb 2oz. Second in the Intermediate category was CPO Paul Todd (Plymouth) with 1lb 6oz; he was confirmed as being in second after a team captain's meeting to decide if assistance in putting maggots on his hook was deemed as outside assistance, even with freezing hands!! Paul you have one of your team mates (Mick Ezard) for bringing it to the attention of the Coarse Secretary, who needs friends??!! The novice category was again won by CPO Paul Haigh with 1lb 15oz. Who is now promoted to Intermediate angler status.
