| Comments from Peter. The Group Programme, organised by the Clubs at the A.G.M. is a bit unbalanced this year. Group Three have only one match left and Group One only fished one match so it had not been possible to include a report from each Group in each Newsletter. I cannot remember where, but I read in one of the magazines some noted angler saying that it had been the poorest season he could remember. Not for the Association - it has been the best I can remember. The middle of July and NOT ONE MATCH which did not avaerage over 4 fish an angler. I have always calculated the an average of 'HALF A LIMIT' ie: four fish in an eight fish limit was a good day and to the best of my knowledge we have never got half way thro the season without a few 2 to 3 fish averages - last year we had one with an average less than one fish per angler. So far 2008 goes down as the best ever. I know I'm going to pay for this comment in August/September! After searching since 1947 I think I have found the perfect small fishery. About six acres in a steep valley on the edge of the Lincolnshire Wolds, therefor chalk based and so far crystal clear. A main stream and two smaller springs keeping a steady flow. Two free boats and comfortable bank fishing. Well stocked with about equal browns and rainbows and the most persistant surface activity I have ever seen. AND in the six weeks I have been fishing it ONLY three other anglers each week have fished it - the most uneducated trout imagineable. Not telling anyone where it is! Good fishing until the next issue - Peter Firth |
