The Army were unable to field a team this year so IBAC stepped in at short notice, a big thank you to them.
Looking at the team sheets the Police looked to have a very strong team, including Glen Milligan of England, IBAC looked to have a strong team as well which included Ray Barron of England, the Royal Navy also had a good team including Cliff Newbold and Steve Clements of England, There was also quite a few ex- internationals on show as well. We couldn't have asked for better weather, with light winds and pight sunshine, from the start fish were flying over the side but other than for a few people Smoothounds were hard to find, it seemed that Black peam were everywhere and stripping all baits that put over the side within minutes of hitting the bottom.
On board Shogun Ray Barron of IBAC won his boat with 156 pts which consisted of 32 sizeable fish and caught the only Gurnard of the competition.
Glen Milligan of the Police wasn't to be outdone and won his boat with 180 pts and 24 sizeable fish and was the only angler on the day to catch 10 smoothhounds.
The Individual champion and boat winner on Valkyrie was Cliff Newbold of the Royal Navy with 181 pts and 35 sizeable fish, Cliff managed to catch a Thornback Ray on lines up.
On the team front the Police put in a good performance and showed the quality in depth they had and ran out winners with 23 pts well done to all of them, the Royal Navy did well to finish second with 30 pts, the Royal Air Force were third with 34pts.
In total 594 fish were recorded with the peakdown as follows:
| Smooth-hounds | 70 | Black peam | 206 |
|---|---|---|---|
| LSD | 126 | Ballan Wrasse | 29 |
| Pout | 146 | Rays | 2 |
| Poor Cod | 8 | Catfish | 1 |
| Pollock | 5 | Gurnards | 1 |
I would like to thank Mr Norman Berry of Sea Angling News for donating a trophy and Shakespeare a rod for the Individual Champion.
