Committee Meeting - Sunday 16 April 2006

A Committee Meeting was held after Easter Sunday's match at Chew. Members present were:

  • Chris Anderson ~ Section Secretary
  • Paul Vine ~ AMFFC Secretary
  • Al Mundy ~ RM Rep and Team Captain
  • Keith Howard ~ Devonport Rep
  • Ted Peck ~ Portsmouth Rep
  • Ron Tutt ~ Associates Rep

A short review of what worked well in 2005 was conducted and the main successes were agreed to be a significantly improved performance in the AMFC and the success of the Coaching weekend prior to the Inter Services.

This year's match programme was discussed and the most notably tight period is the period 6 to 12 September. It is possible that some people could end up fishing for 7 straight days. It was agreed that it would not be sensible to ask anyone to fish for so long. A proposal was made that we could use the boats inventively leading up to the Inter Services by sharing one boat between 4, with 2 fishing in the morning and 2 in the afternoon/evening. Ron Tutt suggested that this sort of arrangement could be worked out with Rutland. A plan for this period will be published before the summer peak.

The subject of Associate members fishing for the 2 Old Lag places at the Inter Services was discussed. There are a growing number of associates that would wish to attend the Inter Services. It was agreed that a cap of no more than 6 Associates at the practice days would be set and published early on so that people are not disappointed at the last minute.

The current practice of giving out of nearly all our trophies at the RN Open was discussed and it was agreed that they should be spread out by presenting the biggest fish trophies at the Fur and Feather match (based on the biggest of the whole season) and the Associates trophy would be handed out at a weekend event, when more Associates are able to fish; this might get it out of Ron Tutt's hands!

No RN Colours were awarded last year; this was largely because the Secretary had no formula for how they should be qualified for. It was agreed that the qualification would be based on representing the RN at four matches in one season, one of these matches must be the Inter Services.

It was pointed out to the Committee that the Association has not yet received this year's funding grant. The RN&RM AA Treasurer, Knocker White, has now formally resigned his post after serving as Treasurer since 1995. Knocker left the Service in 1998 and should have been replaced at that time. His efforts have been greatly appreciated.
